The Reception

The theme for the recpetion was the 3 fates from greek mythology. We created a stencil to make the triangles.

The bar was painted pink, and filled with art to match the theme of lust. We made a big wall of playboy covers that could also function as a photo backdrop.

Stoketoberfest

Client

I worked as the Art Director at Stoke Travel’s Oktoberfest festival campsite in Munich, Germany. My main responsibility was redesigning the campsite's key areas—such as the stage, entrance, and bars—around a new theme: The 7 Deadly Sins. One of the priorities of the project was reusing materials from previous designs to create a new look while being resource-efficient. I led a team of 10-20 people, and together, we hand-painted and constructed my designs.

The

Stoke Travel hosts the Oktoberfest campsite (also known as Stoketoberfest) throughout Munich’s Oktoberfest season. The campsite caters primarily to young backpackers looking for a unique way to experience the festivities. They provide tents, live bands and DJs and unlimited beer and sangria, so the campsite serves as a pre-party, after-party, and accommodation.

The Theme

To fit with the company’s lively and wild party atmosphere, Tom Ryan, the Head of Construction and Design, developed the concept of The 7 Deadly Sins. Each area of the campsite was assigned a specific sin, with additional zones themed as Heaven or Hell. I collaborated with Tom and a team of volunteers —whose numbers varied throughout the project— to bring these ideas to life.

To redesign the stage, we kept most of the original wood, painting it new colors, and swapping the layout. We added the angel and the devil to fit the new theme.

The angel and the devil had skeletons painted in transparent UV paint, which only showed up at night when the lights were on.

The Archway was repainted to fit the theme better, and the devil horns were added. The flames on the wings were reconstructed to be easier to assemble.

Each of the 7 Deadly Sins was paired with a corresponding area of the festival:

The VIP Bar

The Vip bar was a small section for guests with VIP passes and often staff. We added a purple floor and spraypainted purple flames to pull it together.

We repurposed an old decoration depicting an octopus, and turned the arms into demon horns to fit the heaven and hell theme. The eye of the octopus was made into a DJ booth and the demon head was made out of recycled wood.

At Stoke Travels other oktoberfest campsite Thalkirchen, we built a storefront for their merch tent. The design was inspired by the design on the lederhosen.
